Another Sunny Day☀️Indie City

So, over the recent Bank Holiday weekend here I decided to get a bit of 'head space' and take myself out to a part of London I don't do so often. The plan was to go to Ravenscourt Park which is a spit away from Hammersmith, wander through the park and enjoy the greenery and the peace and then to walk down, dodging busy Hammersmith and head along the Thames Path through Furnivall Gardens, find a nice riverside pub and soak up some welcome rays! At least that was the plan, the reality was a bit different thanks to some engineering works which closed the part of the line and offered the joy of a sweaty and packed rail replacement bus ride, normally I don't mind a bus trip but the weather was very warm and the buses were too overcrowded to make the trip enjoyable. So, I ended up at Earl's Court without too much of an idea as to what to do next...

I wandered lonely as a cloud (to quote a well known poem) around Earl's Court and although it does have some history about it (Beatrix Potter the Author and Howard Carter the Egyptologist both lived there) as well as many 'Blue Plaques' for other famous people from there such as Agatha Christie and Hattie Jacques of 'Carry On' film fame there wasn't quite enough to grab my attention or fulfil the peace I was after. I headed out of Earl's Court and towards West Brompton where I knew I would have several options in getting back home again. I passed through the big cemetery, very similar to Abney Park in my previous post on this site at the link 'A Dreaded Sunny Day'. West Brompton cemetery has some well known people buried there including suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst, Dr John Snow who proved that cholera was spread by infected water, a very peaceful and tranquil place to visit with plenty of ivy clad gravestones and mausoleums and is also part of the Royal Parks, you can catch the website and video showing quite how big it is at the link Royal Parks. I ended up just hitting a couple of nice pubs nearby and sat peacefully in the sunshine with a few clouds scudding by watching the world go about it's business. The Lillie Langtry (which was actually named after the owner Sir John Scott Lillie and not the famous British actress and socialite) had a peaceful garden dodging the F.A. Cup final mayhem in the bar and The Atlas pub in a nearby side road is covered in ivy and has a lovely garden area (all dogs welcome which was good for me as I love our four legged friends!).

I got complimented on my choice of fedora hat by someone with a huge furry deerstalker type hat on and also on my choice of T-Shirt (Zildjian) by someone who clearly knows and likes rock stuff and appreciates that whole drum and cymbal sound. I was not quite the trip I had planned, but still tranquil nonetheless and 'Every cloud has a sliver lining' etc, which brings me neatly into the music part of the post...

Another Sunny Day

With the amusingly entitled single "You Should All Be Murdered". Released on the Sarah Record Label in 1989.

Another Sunny Day was initially a solo project of Harvey Williams and started by him whilst at Plymouth Polytechnic, he was also involved in other indie pop band The Field Mice with Rob Wratten.

Sounding very much like the Smiths! I guess Mozza had his hearing aid switched off when this was released😉

The track Anorak City by Another Sunny Day was also released on the Sarah Records Label, which you can catch at the youtube video below:

This track was released with the 'Are You Scared To Get Happy' fanzine as a flexi-disc and was named single of the week at the time by NME magazine.

Although a solo project for live gigs he was supported by:

  • Michael Hiscock
  • Bob Wratten
  • Julien Henry
  • Matthew Drummond

You can can another 'Sarah Records' release by a band from back in the day called Heavenly at the link to Oxford, Rivers, Art Work & Indie Pop or by clicking on the Featured Post Menu Item.

...Well it wasn't quite the trip I had planned but at least I got to enjoy the weather and stoked up some Indie Memories.
