Anti Midas Touch
The Pink Label
The Wolfhounds, The Anti-Midas Touch. Released on The Pink Label in 1986.
The Pink Label was an indie label set up by Simon Down in 1984 (interview with him at No Class . It seems to have been a short-lived venture as by 1987 the label had folded, it didn't stop them releasing some good material though, they released music by other bands such as The June Brides, McCarthy and That Petrol Emotion.
Band & Releases
The Wolfhounds were formed in Romford, Essex in 1985, their Facebook page is at: https://www.facebook.com/TheWolfhounds. They split around about 1990, but re-formed again in 2005 and released further albums in 2016 and 2020 the last being 'Electric Music' which was released on the 'A Turntable Friends Records' label, a review of which is on: https://www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk .
The band's first releases 'Cut The Cake' on 12", the above single 'The Anti-Midas Touch' and also a split 7" single with Razorcuts were all released in 1986 and sealed acceptance by NME for the band to be included on the C-86 compilation album with the song 'Feeling So Strange Again'. By 1987 they had released their first album 'Unseen Ripples From A Pebble'. Clearly, 1986-87 were busy years for them!

Catchy Riffs
Anyway many people have opined that the Anti-Midas Touch seems to have a riff that sounds similar to 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'.... except it was from 5 years earlier. Have a listen to this and then go and score some Nirvana and decide for yourselves.
An interesting article and interview with Dave Callahan from the band which discussed the 'alleged similarity' is here at https://writewyattuk.com.
