Dad Dancing & Camden Afternoons π¨
Well, it was Father's Day the other weekend and in our household I guess we don't usually do so much to celebrate (much the same for Mother's Day). Save for a card and a small token gift the whole thing just seems a little over hyped by supermarkets and card retailers.

Another Camden Afternoon
Anyway, before the Sunday of Father's Day Mrs Akin and I had booked some tickets for the Friday afternoon at Camden's 'Live Odyssey Event'. It was a beautiful day for it and once again very hot.
We made our way on the Northern Line and strolled through Camden High Street which wasn't quite as mental as it is on a Saturday or Sunday. We then hit Camden Stables Market and after getting a bit lost trying to find it we finally found out destination (which was pretty much right in front of us when we went into the market, DOH! π).
We went upstairs and were greeted by members of the bands who were there to entertain us for a couple of hours. The whole thing is an exhibition with some live music thrown in covering music styles from the 1960βs to 1990βs. There was plenty of musical memorabilia adorning the walls including artifacts from John Lennon, artwork, school reports etc and stuff from Live Aid including many of the artists who played it with record covers, microphones used by some of the bands. In each of the rooms the cover bands played for us starting with the β60βs and stuff from The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Beatles and The Kinks through to the β70βs with stuff by David Bowie and Elton John. Both vocally and instrumentally the guys and girls in the bands were spot on.
Once finished with that genre we headed onto the next part and had time to check out more memorabilia and the holograms of The Libertines banging out some top tunes. We were then kept entertained by the next band covering the 1980βs to 1990βs with stuff by Blondie, Kate Bush etc. Once again great musicianship an vocals.
It was all good stuff and a nice day out wallowing in some music nostalgia. Evidently the Exhibition changes every six months or so and the next one is scheduled to be more Madness and ska related sounds, I guess as βThe Nutty Boysβ were from around Camden it is quite fitting and hopefully we can get some tickets for that too.
Sons Of Guns
Anyway, musically for this post I thought I would throw some new sounds in here (shock, horror! π²). The band are called The Sons Of Guns and despite their Americana sounding vibe actually reside in Nice (which is nice π). The track is called βIts Getting Betterβ which I originally caught on a local radio station, so I headed of to YouTube and subscribed to their Channel which is at the link. They appear to be on an Independent label called 'Luna Rising Records'. The track has an infectiously upbeat riff which has a bit of a 1970βs rock vibe about it (it is a real earworm, but in a good way!). The video accompanying it is really quite amusing and kind of ties in with the Dad related topic, go check it out and dance like yer Dad! πΒ
