Never Never...

So, I took the very short bus journey from where I live and hopped off at Upminster Windmill to get some pictures....

The video for the song below was shot there back in 1983. The traveller encampment which was there in video has long since been moved on.

The windmill itself was built in 1805 during the Napoleonic Wars as grain prices increased and served London as it became more populated. It eventually became derelict in the 1960's, but as the London boundaries changed and parts of Essex fell under Greater London Councils it was acquired by the London Borough of Havering and opened to the public in 1967, since then it has been restored many times over the years. The Assembly were formed by Basildon synth genius Vince Clark after Yazoo broke up with help from Eric Radcliffe the sound engineer Vince had worked with during his days with Depeche Mode.
The Undertones' Fergal Sharkey was drafted in for vocal duties. Clarke and Radcliffe had planned to use a different singer on each track the group recorded but nothing else was ever released.
