Lush, Sweetness and Light 4AD Records

Sweetness & Light

The second single by the band on the 4AD Label released in 1990 produced by Talk Talk's Tim Friese-Greene. Their first E.P. Mad Love was produced by Robin Guthrie of The Cocteau Twins.

The band were:

  • Chris Acland – drums
  • Emma Anderson – guitar, backing vocals
  • Miki Berenyi – vocals, guitar
  • Steve Rippon – bass

The band formed in 1987. Miki Berenyi initially started out with the Garage Rock band The Bugs, which you can catch on this site at the link here garage-rock-vibes, Acland was with punk band The Infections, Anderson started out with band The Rover Girls and Steve Rippon who left was replaced by Phil King formely of Biff Bang Pow and Felt. Both Berenyi and Anderson were old school friends and ran a fanzine together also attending gigs at the time in London.

Those clever people at the 4AD Record Label could see potential in the band after early gigs at London's ULU venue, they released four albums all on 4AD. The albums:

  • Scar - 1989
  • Spooky - 1991
  • Split - 1994
  • Lovelife - 1996

They dis-banded in 1996 following the sad and untimely death of drummer Chris Acland.
