No Elephants This Side Of Watford Gap
Exhibit A.
A marvellously entitled E.P. on a brilliantly named label by a London Band called 'Exhibit A' called 'No Elephants This Side Of Watford Gap' an EP released in 1979 on the Independent 'Irrelevant Wombat Records' as catalogue no. 'DAMP 1'
Kind of real basic raw punk/post punk/electronic sound with some solid guitar, bass lines going on. Have a listen to their stuff at the video above. The video contains links to several of their other recordings, the track 'Echoes' sounds very 'Tubeway Army' to me, you judge for yourself though, go on have a listen! There is also some good information by the person who posted this track on YouTube GregSparks.

Exhibit A, Further Releases & D.I.Y.
Exhibit A were to release another 7" E.P. called 'Distance' in 1980 on the same label and the only other release on that label is a cassette album called 'Advantage Of Youth (A Tribute to Geoff Boycott)' which seems to contain some tracks by Exhibit A (looks like a cover they did of 'Teenage Kicks') and other bands such as Brian & The Milkmen, Amsterdam Five (with a cover of 'My Generation) and other bands including The Upside Down Band, Ethos and Fire Engines (not the Scottish Indie band). The whole cassette album is simply a C-90 cassette. looking at the handwriting on it recorded in late October 1980.

Namedrop Records & Sniffin' Glue
Paul Platypus was founder of Irrelevant Wombat Records and also a local record label to me called 'Namedrop Records' which released only a couple of records, one of which was by Hornchurch Anarcho-Punk band called 'Cold War' featured later in this post. He was also in band called The Reflections with Mark Perry (Sniffin' Glue Fanzine and Alternative T.V.). They released one album, 'Slugs and Toads' with the cover artwork designed by Danielle Dax a local lass from Southend On Sea. Catch 'Zig Zagging' from the album at the link.

The Reflections Were
Bass, Vocals – Nag
Cover, Graphics – Danielle Dax
Drums, Organ, Piano – Karl Blake
Drums, Vocals, Guitar – Mark Perry
Guitar, Bass, Saxophone – Dennis Burns
Cold War, Namedrop Records & Essex Anarcho-Punk
Cold War, a band that were formed in the early 80's in Hornchurch, Essex.
They were:
- Chris Knowles - Bass
- Kev Bulmer - Drums
- Paul Harding - Guitar
- Ian Smith - Vocals

Their first gig was support for The Apostles at Cliffs Pavilion in Southend. They soon became part of the Wapping Anarchy Centre and also gigged there, by 1983 their single 'The Machinist' was released on local Essex Indie label Namedrop Records, but by this time the band had split. Chris Knowles and Paul Harding joined Hagar The Womb.
Chris Knowles is now an Acid/Techno DJ & producer and Paul Harding is a Hard House / Trance producer. Hagar The Womb were another Anarcho-Punk band that released records on the 'Mortarhate Records' label set up by band 'Conflict', mostly to release their own material, but also helping out other punk bands. Hagar The Womb's first release was a 12" E.P. called 'The Word Of The Womb' in 1984, catch a track from the E.P. called 'Dressed To Kill'. Chris Knowles appears on the song 'Truth?' released in 1985 on the Cassette 'The Time Is Nigh' on the 'Acid Rain Products' label set up in Sussex and releasing for other acts such as 'Flux' (featured on this site at the link) and an early Cassette by 'The Very Things'. Whilst Ian Smith from Cold War went on to join goth rock band Seventh Séance, check their track 'The Incision' released in 1982.
