Save Me From Tomorrow!

The Big One!

So, towards the end of September it was our kid's big 18th Birthday, sadly on the actual day we were all poorly with Cold/Covid. We booked a restaurant when we all felt better a week later in Drury Lane in London, next door to where my wife worked many years ago for 'Centrepoint' a homeless charity helping young people getting back into a safe place and work/standing on their own two feet.

The restaurant were always good to my wife and the other charity workers, so as it is in London's 'Theatre Land' not too far away, and a very 'quirky' restaurant we decided to take our young 'un out for a Birthday meal, the photos we took inside don't do it justice, so I opted not to post them, but instead put a link to the restaurants own gallery which highlights it's quirkiness in all it's glory Sarastro Gallery.

Private Revolution

The day of going proved a little 'difficult' but still manageable as strikes on public transport were in place and a 'skeleton' service was still running, surprisingly we arrived much earlier than we thought, so we rolled up at Holborn underground station which was a short walk to Drury Lane and were greeted by a mass demonstration, it was awesome to see so many people of like minds gathering to protest. There were members of Trades Unions protesting against 'Pay, Conditions and Job Cuts' and the whole 'Cost Of Living Crisis' and also Climate Change Protestors venting about the whole 'Global Warming Crisis'. All done with a wonderful musical back beat and sound to inspire. A joyous and colourful 'peaceful' protest that made me proud to be in a country that allows this expression of public 'dissatisfaction'. The banner below showing the previous 'Number 10' incumbent nightmare.

I have to say it was very close to my soul and to that of my wife and kid, so what did we do!...we joined in and marched over Lambeth Bridge towards Parliament. The support shown by many bus drivers and vehicles having to be held back was quite heart-warming there where many 'toots' of approval and thumbs up. It made my wife, me and certainly my kid 'proud' to be supporting something we feel deeply about.

We had to 'drop out' eventually as we had the booking for their birthday, but it felt good to 'belong' to something again, possibly not felt by me since my own youth, and to feel part of something that is actually important. Anyway, enough already! and on to the music....

World Party

A band that were never afraid to highlight the issues of 'climate change' and the way big corporates are destroying everything (not just the planet), the band were way ahead of their time. I think the song below beautifully encapsulates their feeling about what was happening then and unfortunately still is, if only those in power would listen.

Catch World Party 'Ship Of Fools' at the link from the album 'Private Revolution' released in 1987. They were fronted by Karl Wallinger a 'multi instrumentalist' and song writer, hey! the guy even wrote 'She's The One' which was covered by Robbie Williams.

The Waterboys

Prior to World Party he was part of another fabulous band The Waterboys, I first heard and brought 'Whole Of The Moon' back in '85 when it came out and their change in style on the album 'Fisherman's Blues' in 1989 still appealed to me.

Have a listen to the track 'Fisherman's Blues' for me a most beautiful, melancholic but also strangely uplifting track. A beautiful mix of rock with traditional sounds all mashed together into a pot and delivered with such eloquence and style.

And so, with a new 'clown' (aka Prime Minister) installed at No.10 Downing Street. Looks like I could use lyrics from The Who with their track 'Won't Get Fooled Again',

"Meet the new boss,Same as the old boss"

All the is left for me to say is...Save Me From Tomorrow!!
