Deity's Lament Sheffield Goth Rock

The Stunt Kites Sheffield Independent Music
Been playing quite a bit of Sheffield based music 🎶 at the moment, which isn't a bad thing😉. Seems to have been a hot-bed of sounds back in the day, spawning many, many great acts. Hope to post some more on this site over the coming months.
How It's All Changed - Sheffield As I Remembered It!
I always have a bit of a soft spot for the City, the last time I was there would have been about 20 years ago. I used to do quite a lot of work for a client up there.
I had a little virtual tour thanks to Mr. Google Street View and wow! how some of the areas I used to know have changed, Blonk Street and Snig Hill look tidier than I remember, the Police Divisional Headquarters building near Scotland Street now looks like a hotel and several other places along Abbeydale Road and other parts of the City look like they have been shut down or redeveloped (hopefully for the good). I believe from reading that there was some kind of 'Grey to Green' rejuvenation of parts of the City a while back. Would be interesting for me to go back and have a trip down memory lane.

Nice thing about that part of the world was that the people I met were friendly, didn't matter if you were by yourself, you could walk into a pub in the city and pretty much guarantee a welcome and a chat with someone. In my experience completely different attitude to that found in most London Boozers! Anyhoooo, rambling time over, back to The Stunt Kites....
Band & Track Listing
This number is by a Sheffield band The Stunt Kites, the song is 'Deity's Lament' and can be found at youtube on the link. It is taken from their E.P. 'Lebensraum' released on the local independent label Pax Records from 1981. The band:- Guitar - Ren (Nigel Renshaw)
- Drums- Tony Armitage
- Bass - Andrew Young
- Synthesizer - Malcolm
- Vocals - John Allen
The track listing for the E.P. is:
- A1 Lebensraum
- A2 One For The Family
- B1 Deity's Lament
- B2 Ex-Triple One
Overall Deity's Lament is a pretty solid track with a synth opening, chugging guitar, steady bass and pounding drums and vocals that sound almost John Lydon/P.I.L.- esque.
They released one cassette album which wasn't on a label in 1980 simply called 'Stunt Kites'. They also released a single on 'Criminal Damage' Records in 1983 called 'Leonora', the label also released for bands such as Twisted Nerve, Anorexic Dread and The Membranes to name but a few.
