The 7" single was released on the Malicious Damage Record Label, a small number of them were released with a pre-typed folded form of military style "call up papers" to be filled in and submitted by the purchaser.

The single's cover also somewhat 'controversial' in the day perhaps, for depicting Fred Astaire dancing over dead bodies on a battlefield.

The Killing Joke album cover artwork was based on a photograph by Don McCullin of young rioters trying to escape from clouds of CS gas released by the British Army in Derry, Northern Ireland, on 8 July 1971 during the Troubles.
